Great wordpress pluginsBlogging using wordpress blogs is really cool and one thing that makes it so dang cool is the fact that there are so many great wordpress plugins that you can to use to make your blog really turn heads. And what makes it even better is that 99% of them are 100% free to use.

Now if you’re just learning how to build a wordpress blog and you’re not already familiar with what plugins are then let me explain. Plugins are applications that you can add onto your blog. If you’re familiar with the Apps craze for cellular phones then you’ll understand when I say that wordpress plugins are very similar but just for blogging instead.

There are thousands of great plugins to choose from that do all sorts of things. Since all that choice may have you confused, that’s why I decided to help you narrow down to the 12 Essential Worpress Plugins that you should have working for you on your blog.

1) Anti Spam – Block-Spam-By-MathReloaded is the one I recommend, it protects your blog from people who may try to spam it with useless comments just in order to get back links. Without this kind of plugin you could find yourself spending hours deleting irritating comment after comment. Another one that is very popular is Akismet

2) All in One SEO Pack – This plugin helps optimize your blog so you can get great rankings in the search engines.

3) Easy Privacy Policy – This simple plugin automatically creates a privacy policy for your page. This saves you lots of time doing it yourself and it can be quite important to have a privacy policy because it one of the things that the Google gods look for.

4) Facebook Fanbox – If you’re branding yourself to build your business then you should already have a Facebook Fanpage. This plugin lets your blog readers click the like button to become your fans right from your blog rather than having to search you out on Facebook.

5) GoCodes– Go codes is a cool little tool that helps make your affiliate links pretty. You don’t want people seeing long ugly affiliate links like www.affproduct.com/39202039fladfdadadf or something like that. Go codes lets you customize your links. It also has the added bonus of providing link tracking so you can see which of your links are getting clicked the most.

6) Google Analytics or Stat Counter or both – Google Analytics is Google’s free tool for tracking any website. It’s very robust and provides a lot of info. The Google Analytics plugin allows you to plug your blog directly into Google’s tracking systems. Stat Counter is another system that does much the same thing. One advantage I’ve found with Stat Counter is that it provides  full dashboard right from your Admin section of your blog whereas you have to log into your Google Analytics account to see your Google results. I use them both and recommend you do too.

7) nrelate Related Content– This simple plugin shows your readers other posts on your blog that are related to what they just read. Don’t underestimate the power of this. This plugin can easily increase the amount time your readers spend on your blog.

8 ) SexyBookmarks (by Shareaholic)– This is a great looking plugin that lets your readers share your content. I love how the icons popup! Sharing is Sexy!

9) Google XML Sitemaps – This is another plugin that helps with your blogs SEO by automatically creating an XML sitemap.

10) WP Greet Box– Now this one is pretty cool.  It greats your readers when they first land on your page by mentioning the site they just came from. For instance if someone comes to you from Twitter, it will say something like “welcome Twitter user!” It also encourages them to share your blog with others via that same social site.  What’s our motto? That’s right! Sharing is Sexy! 8)

11) WP Super Cache – This plugin helps your blog load up faster. Again this is one of those things we often don’t think about especially if you have a decent internet connection. If your blog is slow loading up your reader may not have the patience to wait around.  So this could easily save you from losing potential readers.

12) Twitter Follow Me Box – And lastly, we live in the age of Twitter so you should have a Twitter account. This plugin lets people start following you right from your blog. Simple but key.

So that’s it the Essential 12 WordPress Plugins. Ofcourse this isn’t all there is. I have lots more but these are the 12 that I don’t think I would do without. I use all of these plugins on this blog so feel free to look around and try to spot them.
